My name is Alex Michels. Growing up in a small town in the Midwest I found one thing that truly inspired me was photography! My oldest memory of photography was going down to Florida to visit my Grandma and Grandpa to find myself with my own disposable camera at the age of 4 1/2 running around capturing the world as I saw it. Sitting at a table outside with an umbrella? Lets take a photo of the umbrella, or the birds around me, or even photos of my food! That’s right I took food porn photos before it was a thing! As I grew up sports became a big part in my life! Having a monthly subscription to Sports Illustrated Kids showed me even more possibilities with photography. Sports photography in my eyes was CRAZY! Being able to capture feelings of winning, losing, excitement, sadness all in the click of a button to me was insane. I found myself sitting in front of the television taking photos of the close up shots of the players pretending that I was there live! Fast-forward a few years of High School and trying to be an adult I put photography on the backburner. I ended up buying a Sony a6000 in 2014 wanting to get back into the world of photography. Finding a little bit of free time I was able to put my headphones on and attempt to enter the world behind a view finder, but that world was the one that is put in front of all of our faces; the world of landscape photography. Something completely new to me. Wanting my photos to be able to speak those thousands of words when you look at them: hear the water flowing, hear the birds chirping, or even be able to smell the place of the photo from our memories. As I build my craft up from years of practice I decided now is the time to show off all of my works in the power of my photography. I now shoot with a Sony AR7IV, continuing to grow as a photographer every single time I go out and shoot the world that was put in front of us!
